Geotextile Fabric
Description
Geotextile fabrics, also known as geotextiles, are a drainage geosynthetic, which is made of synthetic fiber through needling. The finished product is of cloth shape, with width commonly 4 to 6 meters and length 50-100 meters. Geotextile fabric belongs to non-woven fabric. Geotextiles have excellent filtering, drainage, separation, reinforcement, seepage control, protection, light weight, high tensile strength, good permeability, high temperature resistance, freezing resistance, ageing resistance and corrosion resistance.
Features
Geotextile fabric is typically defined as any permeable textile material, which is used to increase soil stability, provide erosion control or aid in drainage. More simply put, if it is made of fabric and buried in the ground, it is probably a geotextile! Modern geotextiles are usually made from a synthetic polymer such as polypropylene, polyester, polyethylene and polyamides. Varying polymers and manufacturing processes result in an array of geotextiles suitable for a variety of civil construction applications.
Application
Geotextile fabrics support many civil engineering applications, including roads, airfields,railroads, embankments, retaining structures, reservoirs, canals, dams, bank protection, coastal engineering and construction site silt fences. Usually geotextiles are placed at the tension surface to strengthen the soil. Geotextile fabrics are also used for sand dune armoring to protect upland coastal property from storm surge, wave action and flooding.
